While the characters and overall feel of Necromance!'s world obviously take inspiration from the cartoons of the 1920s and 1930s, the backgrounds take much more inspiration from another source: Scooby Doo. With the macabre elements of zombies and the undead alongside more cheerful elements like diners and movie theaters, the painterly settings that surrounded the Mystery Gang seemed like a perfect comparison.

The Cemetery (Not Graveyard! Graveyards have to be associated with a church, as it turns out) also takes inspiration from various cemeteries I've visited or lived near in person, from Boston to Salem to Atlanta. The hilliness is definitely more New England, but several of the crypts are references elsewhere.

The posters on the Theatre also contain a lot of jokes and references, some referring to other projects of mine also in the works!
